young professionals board

The {she crew} Young Professionals' Board (YPB) is a collective of emerging professionals who may not have the budget or experience to serve on a traditional non-profit board, but are eager to volunteer their time, skills and creativity to a worthwhile organization.

SHAJAYA MARTINEZ - Shajaya loves to travel, laugh, eat and read. She is a Chicago native and a Cubs fan. In 2016, she graduated from DePauw University with a B.A. in sociology and gender studies. Shajaya is excited to be part of the YPB because she believes the creation of spaces for self-identified women and girls is vital to our growth, joy and becoming. In society, we are socialized to center men, often resulting in the silencing of non-male voices, desires and selves.

ALEX DAHM  -  Alex is a trans cartoonist, performance artist, and teacher from Minnesota. Currently, they live in Albany Park where they create free alternative theatre with ShowParty. Alex's hobbies include collecting insects, making collaborative zines, and overusing the word "rad."

SEAN JOHNSON -  Sean is a Chicago native currently living in the Bridgeport neighborhood. He studied Finance and Economics at UIC, and has been working in the field since college. Outside the office, Sean enjoys cycling, hiking, researching random topics, and just generally just trying to make the most of what Chicago summers have to offer.

LIL CUMMINGS - Lillie is a band manager, nonprofit administrator, and events planner with a background in the performing arts. She has worked with Rotary InternationalCommunity HomesteadGrowing HomeGirls on the Run, and Arts Alliance Illinois. Lillie loves to visit giant grocery stores, look for mystery vegetables, and figure out how to cook them. She's also a proud resident of Lincoln Square - where her band, The Winchesters, was founded.

BECCA SHEEHAN - Becca enjoys performing and collaborating with others to create something that sparks conversation. Becca has worked with Provision Theater, Porchlight Music Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Other Theatre, Northern Sky Theater and Emerald City Theatre. She has also volunteered her time with Center on Halsted and the Old Town Triangle Association. Becca is a Company Member with Other Theatre,  dedicated to telling the stories of persons or groups who are othered by systems of oppression. Becca is a proud intersectional feminist, foodie and cat lady!

AMANDA JOY COLLINS - Amanda lives with her partner and two dogs in Ravenswood. She works in the loop at a nonprofit called Women Employed, an organization that advocates for women’s rights in and out of the workplace. Amanda is an outgoing introvert who cares deeply and is a fierce lover of pillows and potatoes.

AISHA ISMAIL - Aisha is a resident of Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood and a women's rights advocate at Women Employed with a lifelong passion for social justice. She also volunteers as a leader on IMAN's Corner Store Campaign and is a member of Peer Health Exchange Chicago's Junior Board. In her free time, Aisha enjoys spending time with family and friends, biking around the city, or getting lost in a good book!
