about

{she crew} was founded in 2014 out of the need for intersectional spaces for young thinkers, activists, and artists to learn and collaborate together. {she crew} has grown to be a home for young people from every corner of Chicago who may benefit from a little special support at a special time in their lives.

Jess London-Shields  - Co-Founder & Managing Director - As a founding member, Jess helped to create the philosophy organizational frames of {she crew} programs including the Summer Intensive and SHE CAST the podcast.  Jess has a background in acting, writing, and social work, and works to ensure that all {she crew} programs are trauma-informed. Jess also has worked as a co-instructor and acts as {she crew}'s grant writer. Jess holds a Masters in Social Work from the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration.

Meredith Montgomery  - Co-Founder & Program Director -  {she crew} is Meredith's brainchild, and {she crew}'s curriculum is informed by everything she wishes she had as a young person.  Meredith uses her experience as an educator, chef, and artist to create holistic programs and curriculum that is nurturing, affirming, and transformative.  She has also worked as {she crew}'s lead instructor and graphic designer. Meredith holds a BA from St. Edwards University.

Kayla Lane Freeman  -  Community Outreach Coordinator - Kayla is the director of {she crew}'s Young Professionals Board and works behind the scenes to build new partnerships and unearth opportunities.  She has worked with several Chicago non-profits and educational/training organizations.  Kayla will be entering graduate school in the fall of 2019 at Loyola University's Social Work program.
